%X The objective of this study was to evaluate the adequacy of land use in the watershed of Ribeirão Extrema, Distrito Federal (DF) based on the intersect between the land use and occupation map and the land suitability map of this watershed, through the use of geographic information systems and remote sensing. For this purpose, a planialtimetric and thematic database of the region was compiled. Furthermore, a Landsat8 OLI orbital image was acquired on June 8, 2016. This image was submitted to R7G5B6 composition, from which samples of seven land use and occupation classes were extracted, through the MAXVER (maximum likelihood) algorithm, it was classified on ENVI software generating the land use map. After this product was evaluated in relation to the available (and generated in this work) cartographic data. The use map and the suitability map were submitted to cross-tabulated making the adequacy of land use on ArcGIS software. The application of geotechnogies allowed to identify that 62.33% of the agricultural activities occur in accordance with the agricultural land use capacity. However, 4.33% of the land with restricted agricultural potential used above their capacity, which is characterized by inadequate use must cause negative environmental impacts, especially in Permanent Preservation Areas. It was also identified that the predominant use in 2016 in the study area is related to agricultural activities (agriculture, exposed soil and mulch), with 50.38%. The application of the methodology was satisfactory, since it allowed the evaluation of the adequacy of the land use of the watershed.
